The story of the Journal of Indian History begins in 1921-22 with Sir Shafaat Ahmad Khan, Professor of Modern History, University of Allahabad, round, about the time the Harappan civilisation was ‘discovered’. Shafaat Ahmad Khan started it, published the first 3 volumes and handed it over to the University of Madras. Dr. Sakkottai Krishnaswamy Aiyangar edited volumes upto 24. Sir C.P.
